Ideas to Keep the Family Entertained

Ideas-to-Keep-the-Family-Entertained

In this article, we share some ideas for how to keep the family entertained.

There is no end to the different activities you can do together as a family but sometimes it can feel difficult to come up with new ideas. Here are some thought starters to help…

Surprise for a Family Member

If someone in the family has a birthday or other special occasion coming up, try working together as a family to plan a surprise.

Think about the things that person loves and their special interests as a source of ideas to include.

It could be a physical gift you make or collect together or it could be a play you all perform for them or a song you write together and sing to them.

Make New Family Memories

There are lots of ways you can create special keepsakes for the whole family to cherish long into the future.

You could all dress up in themed outfits and have a ‘photo shoot’.

Or try creating a time capsule where each family member adds something of meaning to them, whether it’s a physical object, a written story, a recorded song, a piece of artwork or craft.

Get Dramatic

What about creating a play together as a family?

Young and old can have fun with this as you create characters, write the storyline, design the costumes and ‘stage’ and then practice your performance.

You can also create a special family memory by recording the performance and/or performing it over Zoom or Skype for family members in another location

Pick a Daily Challenge

Is Your Family Up to the Challenge?

Create a list of fun ‘challenges’. Each one can be written on a card or or piece of paper and placed in a bowl or jar.

Then each morning, each family member picks one from the bowl and has to take that on as their daily challenge.

The challenges can include anything you can think of that would be age-appropriate for your child or children.

Your challenges could include things such as:

  • Learn a new dance
  • Do 5 kind things
  • Put make-up on mum or dad
  • Write a story without using the word ‘the’
  • Sing every question for a day
  • Have a sugar free day
  • Wear all one colour
  • Write a letter to someone

We hope this article will provide some useful ideas to keep the family entertained over the holidays.
